THE TRUTH ABOUT THE PDI DUAL OIL COOLER… 👀

Mar 9, 2024

PDI came out with a new product. A dual oil cooler for the X-15 cummins, It came out about 4 months ago and we are finally seeing the results of our testing and customer feedback. And it's better than we thought.

As a PDI Dealer we knew the oil cooler was the next big product to come out, we saw them testing it on a Peterbilt in October, 2021 on a visit to their HQ in Utah that had been.

Later next year they publicly announced the oil cooler. We always test any product before we market or recommend it. And we had the perfect candidate to test out this product. Jony with a 2022 Peterbilt 389 car carrier with a 605hp X-15 Cummins that travels all Texas. He was complaining about his oil temp getting to 250oF. This excess temperature was bound to cause more issues down the road so we needed to fix it quick. We knew the oil cooler was coming out soon and had him as the first to get it.

PDI BIG BOSS OIL COOLER FOR CUMMINS!

A quick bolt off bolt on of the new oil cooler got Jony rolling the same day. In theory we thought that the oil cooler should work, as you can see above the main difference is that it has two cooling units opposed to one. So should cool more and keep the oil cooler. Now we just had to see it

While testing we kept in contact with Jony getting temperature readings, we saw the oil temperature dropped and most importantly it stayed there. And IT DID! His temp sayed around 220 o F. A 15% drop in oil temperature which matches their claim “Lowers peak oil temperature 20-30 degrees”

Why Do you want cooler oil tempeture

So it works, awesome, here's the real question, why doesn't the stock X-15 come with this bigger oil cooler. The only reason I can think of is… Cummins is trying to save $$$. The PDI oil cooler being nearly 4K I'm sure having a larger oil cooler from stock would significantly increase the price.

Why do you want cooler oil temperature

in short if your oil gets too hot it loses its lubricating property because it gets too watery. An example of how hot oil can be costly, we see it too often, the oil temp gets too high and then the turbo cracks. Since the lubrication of the turbo is solely reliant on oil, the high rpm's of a turbo are unforgiving, and the moment the oil stops lubricating then the that's when we here the big boom. And remember the goal of most of the engine modifications we do is to increase Horsepower and lower Temps. No motor like high temperatures it bends metal, fries computers and lowers life expectancy.

Another advantage of the oil cooler is that it is an easy install. Once we remove the turbo and everything on the hot side of the oil cooler is just a few bolts and the install can be done in a few hours. As soon as the turbo isn't hot anymore. That is just one example we have another customer who drives a 2023 flat top peterbilt 389 that came and go the oil cooler installed as soon as he got the truck. Cooler oil temps were seen instantly, it dropped the temperature to 220. If you see your oil temperature getting too hot, if its touching 250 or getting close, especially with the these hot temperatures then we need to keep a vigilant eye on those gauges.

Since Jony we have test more than 25 oil coolers all with similar results, we can stand behind this technology, if you want to lower your oil temps find it here . Have other performance questions give us a call 832-571-6221 or message us on IG @texastruckmarket
